In 2002 I found out that the owner had a Porsche sitting in his garage collecting dust, I found this difficult to understand
and inquired if he was interested in selling his car. Being a VW Bug enthusiast I was at first just interested in the
engine (a 1974 Beetle with a Porsche engine would be kinda fun). Then I found out that the car was a 914 and began reading
up on this strange looking Porsche. I became facinated in this strange little car that for all its modern design got
mixed reviews but yet had one of the highest production runs of any Porsche made. From all this it seemed that a used
914 was a pretty good value investment to get good driving fun for a reasonable cost. Finally in 2003 the owner promised
to sell me his car for a reasonable price as long as I promised to put it back on the road.

I gentlly towed the car home on a trailer as I was literally scare that it might break in half from all the reading I
had done on how bad these things rusted. I shouldn't have worried so much as the unibody is not quite so fragile as
outer rocker panels can be. Would the car run? It hadn't been turned over in 18 years, only one way to find out,
put some fresh gas in the tank and fill up the break fluid resevoir. Started the second time I cranked it over!
The video attached (google video) to this page is from the first day or two of driving (likely only someone with a resurrected
80 hp 914 use to driving a 40 hp Bug could appreciate it). The rest of this site is just me taking it apart so it can
be a little more road legal. It won't be a show car, but should be a joy to drive in the summer.
